WATER 4 MERCY MEETING
The State Department for Irrigation is committed to advancing the national irrigation agenda through strategic partnerships with development partners. The focus is to empower farmers by providing access to specialists such as agronomists, smart farming tools, hybrid seeds, and effective knowledge transfer.
Today, the Principal Secretary for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, received a courtesy call from Nermine Khouzam Rubin, MBA, MHS, Founder and CEO of Water 4 Mercy Foundation an organization dedicated to upholding human dignity through world-renowned solar, water, and agricultural solutions.
Water 4 Mercy, in partnership with Cultiv-Aid, aims to collaborate with the State Department to facilitate knowledge transfer and distribute clean seedlings to farmers across five pilot irrigation schemes in Embu County. These centres will serve as agricultural agent hubs and seedling distribution points, piloting drip irrigation technology.
The pilot schemes will be established in Embu North (three centres), Embu South (two centres), and Embu East (one centre).
This partnership seeks to address critical challenges, including water scarcity, availability of clean seedlings, soil testing services, and market access — with an identified off-taker to support farmers' produce. These efforts are designed to strengthen the resilience and productivity of farmers within the targeted regions.
