PROGRESS MEETING FOR THE GALANA KULALU FOOD SECURITY PROJECT

Principal Secretary for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho CBS, held a meeting  with CRBC and the National Irrigation Authority to review the progress of the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project, water security component, Galana Dam project.

The dam is expected to provide water security to the project unlocking the irrigation command area by 200,000 acres.

This aligns with the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP) pathway no. 3 on corporate agribusiness to scale up corporate and commercial investments in irrigated agriculture. The ultimate goal of this pathway is to promote commercially oriented irrigation projects undertaken independently by the Private Parties, or jointly with Government and Communities.

Galana Kulalu Food Security Project will increase maize production by over 12 million bags annually, adressing cyclical maize shortage and fodder.

Among those in attendance were National Irrigation Authority CEO, Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS; Eng Michael Thuita; Lee Fangliang from CRBC; Eng Wangai Ndirangu among other senior officers from the State Department and National Irrigation Authority
