NISIP LAUNCH

The  National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP)  is a systematic and programmatic initiative geared towards revolutionizing the irrigation sector as part of the Government's efforts to enhance food security in the country, Cabinet Secretary for Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa has said.

Speaking during the Launch of NISIP, at KICC, Nairobi, the CS added that this is the first time Kenya has come up with a structured  and systematic way to address irrigation initiatives 59 years after independence.

Eng. Muga observed that out of the 3.5 million acres available potential for Irrigation in the country currently, only 747,000 acres are  under irrigation adding that this translates to only 5 percent of the total arable land and 21.3 percent of the country's Irrigation potential.
