Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Food System program
The Government of Kenya is leading a comprehensive initiative to implement a Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Food System program in 14 Arid and Semi-Arid Counties. The program, which addresses critical challenges in these areas, is aimed at mitigating the impacts of natural disasters like droughts, floods, and locust invasions, as well as land degradation, food insecurity, resource-based conflicts, refugee influxes, and high malnutrition rates.
Principal Secretaries Ephantus Kimotho (Irrigation), Julius Korir (Water and Sanitation), and Kello Harsama (ASALs) held a consultative engagement on October 8th, 2024, at Maji House in Upper Hill to discuss the program's implementation.
This upcoming stakeholders engagement aims for a comprehensive engagement for unlocking investments in sustainable food systems, promoting climate resilience, and developing small-scale water infrastructure to support these efforts.
The ultimate goal of the initiative is to enhance the resilience and sustainability of Kenya's food systems in the ASAL regions, ensuring that communities are better equipped to handle the challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation.
