H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Mwea Rice Mills (MRM) in Kirinyaga County on Feb 1, 2020. He was accompanied by CS, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives Hon. Peter Munya, EGH, Kirinyaga County Governor Hon. Ann Waiguru, EGH, among other leaders.
Today The PS Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Mr. Joseph W. Irungu accompanied by NIA’s General Manager/ CEO Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, distributed 3000 avocado fruit tree seedlings worth 3M to farmers in Homabay county. The pair was flanked by Hon Gladys Wanga and Hon Dr. Pauline Kogo among other leaders.
The PS, State Department of Irrigation, Prof. Fred Segor joined NIA Board of Directors in Galana Kulalu on August 6, 2019 to assess the state and progress of the project. The Board of Directors had earlier been in Njukini Irrigation Project on August 5, 2019 for an induction tour.
His Excellency the President Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta has signed the Irrigation Bill of 2019 into law today, August 2, 2019. The Irrigation Act is intended to support sustainable food production by outlining the roles of national and county governments in facilitating irrigation activities in the country.
The National Irrigation Authority participated in the annual Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Kisumu Regional Show held between July 22, 2019 and July 28, 2019. The show was themed, “Promoting innovation and technology in agriculture and trade”.
